Chalé das Três Esquinas

Interiors | 25 Out 2016

AN OFFICE, A HOUSE, A SINGLE SPACE

Chalé das Três Esquinas is a very peculiar building, in Braga, Portugal, documenting this region’s history and diaspora, now perfectly suited for today’s way of living. Combining typical 19th century Portuguese architecture and urban design with an unexpected alpine influence, this is a building with two fronts - one facing the street at West, and another one facing a nice block interior plaza at East - enjoying natural light all day long. Home and architecture atelier of Tiago do Vale (responsible for the project), Chalé das Três Esquinas reflects its original organization and is divided into three floors. The ground floor is dedicated to services, and the first floor is reserved for the social areas of the house. Climbing the last flight of stairs we reach the sleeping quarters where the protagonist is the roof, whose structure was kept apparent, though painted white.
Chalé das Três Esquinas was recently awarded the American Architecture Prize 2016.
