Hemmingford House

A PROJECT SIMARD ARCHITECTURE

Situated in Hemmingford, southern Quebec, this modern residential project signed by SIMARD architecture comes in the middle of the countryside and honors the agricultural past of the region. Awash in natural light, the house is composed of two distinct two-storey volumes, joined by a double-height space containing the main entrance, a monumental stair and a glass walkway that facilitates movement between the common areas and rooms. With huge windows at both extremities, this space offers breathtaking views over the entire property. The exterior of the house was coated with a slate from a nearby quarry area. This slate was also used to cover the entrance floor, the balcony and terrace. This continuity of material decreases the boundary between the house and its environment, creating a connection between the interior spaces and the exterior.
