A SCULPTURE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST
Sculptural, is probably the best adjective to define the residential project The House of Sculptor Jarnuszkiewicz – an imposing building that opens itself to nature and that is perfectly integrated into the landscape. Bearing the signature of the Canadian studio YH2, this project is the result of the collaboration between the client – the sculptor Jacek Jarnuszkiewicz – and the architects Marie-Claude Hamelin and Loukas Yiacouvakis.
The building process of this house followed the guidelines of the cadavre exquis (exquisite cadaver) – method that was introduced by the French surrealist movement in the early twentieth century, consisting in the collaboration of various designers, where each designer bases his work on what was done by the previous one. During the preparation of the project, each sculptural proposal was discussed by the designers involved until a consensus was reached: verticality, as a strong expression of the landscape´s essence, was decided to be the core concept of the building.
