Ricardo Bofill

The world’s Catalan architect

Ricardo Bofill was born in Barcelona on the 5thof December 1939, and he is one of the most prestigious personalities in contemporary architecture. From his father, architect and builder, he may have inherited the passion for the career, starting his studies at Barcelona’s Higher Technical School of Architecture, where he was expelled from in 1957 thanks to his political activities – Bofill was a member of the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia. To keep studying, he traveled to Switzerland and joined the University of Geneva where he graduated as an architect.In 1963, Ricardo Bofill brought together a team of architects, engineers, philosophers and sociologists and founded the studio Taller de Arquitectura – today named Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura (RBTA), which has a team with more than four decades of experience in architecture, urbanism and interior design.
