Cirurgias Urbanas

The best version of each space.

To write about Cirurgias Urbanas studio we go back 15 years and set course to Rua do Rosário, in Porto. It all started there and it keeps being at number 147 that they develop projects that, physically, are mostly around Porto, but that also live in Gaia, Gerês or Lisbon.

The atelier covers different areas of activity – architecture, landscape architecture, arboriculture –, but the story told hereinafter is, above all, about the side of Cirurgias Urbanas dedicated to architecture, about Maria Amarante and Conceição Mestre, the architects that embody it, and about inspiring projects and ways of working. They do projects from scratch, smaller interventions – “small surgeries [cirurgias in Portuguese]” as they tell us –, but their work is mainly focused on rehabilitated spaces.
