São Lourenço do Barrocal

Everything's time

São Lourenço do Barrocal, Évora, 2019.

This is a story that began more than 200 years ago. We need a kind of technology not yet invented to get to know all the lives that existed there. Or then only from the people who make this place unique, unrepeatable, peaceful. From the people who tell us the best stories and describe the property with an affection that is present in every word.
Presently owned by José António Uva, the eight generation at the head of the country estate, São Lourenço do Barrocal is made of Alentejo, of welcoming, of ensuring respect for nature and time of things.

Here, we move at a different pace. We look out the window and see a stretch of land to lose sight of (780 hectares), plains interspersed by olive and holm oaks and ancient and large rocks.

José worked on the idea of this hotel for more than a decade and that is how he managed to make to make it everything he ever aspired. A beautiful place, individual, contemporary, but with all the history that is associated with it. The space surrounding us was rehabilitated by Eduardo Souto de Moura (who won the Golden Lion at Venice Biennale for this project) and the greatest care was to preserve simplicity. In such a way it becomes difficult to distinguis between the original and the rehabilitated.
Here, we move at a different pace.l We look out the window and see a stretch of land to lose sight of (780 hectares), plains interspersed by olive and holm oaks and ancient and large rocks.
