AI MAESTRI ROOMS & CAFE

Comfort, charisma and craftsmanship.

Matera, a city dug in the rocks. Capital of Basilicata, it was barred by the Italians in the second half of the twentieth century. It integrates UNESCO World Heritage List since 1993 and in 2019 is the European Capital of Culture. Matera pleases everyone. It exists in the past, but offers a site perspective of the future. Walking through the streets of Matera, however, is impossible to ignore the history of what was once known, as a doomed city. It is one of the oldest prehistoric places in Europe and witness to human presence soon after the Palaeolithic.

Now, it lives magnificent days exhibiting a more modern appearance. Every year, the number of artists visiting the city increases. As has been happening all over Europe, also here we see the new phenomenon of mass tourism leading to the necessary reflection concerning the relationship between the city and the tourist. Consequently, it has been required to expand tourist offer without damaging the city’s quality life. It is in this context that Ai Maestri Rooms & Café features a space that combines charisma, hospitality and craftsmanship. It is a small and refined hotel carefully decorated and explored in detail to tell the city’s stories and business. At the same time, it is also a cafe that was born with the purpose of serving a touch of taste and local products to all who want to visit.
