If asked what makes Alentejo so special, many will say it is the gastronomy, the people, the landscape. Others will say it is the unparalleled colours that travel through the day, the fragrances that do not repeat themselves, the wind that rakes the mountains and plains or even the wildlife’s diversity. How often have we traveled to a place and in each of those journeys confirmed what we longed to find, or simply remembered what the last voyage revealed to us? This is the purpose of travelling, to awaken to an unknown world and create layers of experiences that we overlap and frame as we get to live them.
Getting to know Herdade da Malhadinha Nova was an old dream. It took place when it was meant to be. It could have been summer, spring, but as circumstances determined it was on a cool, rainy winter day. In fact, winter prevailed during our entire visit to this estate built of strong emotions. And not even the cold withdrew the charisma of Malhadinha Nova, as it was created to be lived throughout the year. In each season, it is possible to make the most of the place. Upon arrival, a long road shows us a house at the back. The family estate. Malhadinha Nova exists since 1998, a dream of the Soares´ family – João, Paulo, Rita and Maria Antónia Soares.
