OODA WINS FIRST PRIZE
Architecture studio OODA – Oporto Office for Design and Architecture – won the international contest to the Old Matadouro (slaughterhouse) of Porto’s renovation and extension. In another time it was a place of great importance to the city and now this project’s main goal is to reestablish its cultural, economic and social relevance. Also, it will be a public space accessible to everyone, and that anyone can feel as theirs in particular.
This intervention will result in different spaces, namely a library, museum and a performance site, among others. However, one of the highlights is the roof that will unite the entire program, either by covering, or integrating the spaces.
The project was designed by OODA in partnership with the Japanese atelier Kengo Kuma & Associates, Mota-Engil, Eriji Strutural Engineers e ESC.
