The High Line

Magazine Art + Culture | 22 Set 2016

Seldom can you immediately recognise the literal translation of preservation and innovation of an existing structure. This is not the case of The High Line project, designed by James Corner Field Operations with Diller, Scofidio & Renfro and Piet Oudolf, a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets of Manhattan`s West Side, New York. The infrastructure belongs to the city, but it is maintained and operated by the Friends of the High Line, a non-profit association founded in 1999 by people living in the High Line neighbourhood, who successfully fought for the preservation of a space designed for everyone.
